Children, young people and families enjoy open day at RSBC’s new Life Without Limits Centre (LWLC)

April 13, 2022
On Saturday 9th April we held a “Family and Friends’ Day’ at the charity’s new Life Without Limits Centre (LWLC) in London.
Blind and partially sighted children and young people and their families were invited to tour the Centre and its facilities including the media suite, learning hub, creative suite, accessible kitchen and one-to-one support spaces.
They also had the opportunity to take part in a range of activities taking place on the day.
Kaya podcasting
In the media suite, Kaya, a member of the RSBC’s Youth Forum interviewed visitors, staff and volunteers and recorded a podcast using the state-of-the-art technology installed.

Making music and performing
In the Creative suite, the musical instruments were out, and groups of children and young people had impromptu jam sessions.
There were also musical performances in the colourful atrium, with a number of young people taking to the floor to showcase their talents.
One of those who performed was Jude, a student at RSBC Dorton College who also takes part in the RSBC’s Creative group. He came along with his mum and sister.
“It is always so lovely to come and be a part of all these activities. Especially after lockdown, it has been hard for the children to be able to socialise with each other, and these events all mean so much to them and all of us parents,” says Florina, Jude’s Mum.

Rona enjoying the visit
It was many people’s first visit to the new Centre. 20-year-old Rona joined the Creative group in the summer of 2021. On the day she entertained the visitors with her singing.
“I loved every minute of the Open Day!” said Rona. “Especially getting to see all of the RSBC staff members and other young people in person finally!”
Get in touch if you would like to visit us and take part in our wide-range of activities. Book via our calendar of activities or call 020 3198 0225 or email connections@rsbc.org.uk
