But, without specialist support, many blind children can’t feel the joy of Christmas at all. For children like Jay, Christmas morning can look the same as any other morning.
While sighted children take in the wonder, blind children, who rely on their surroundings being familiar, can struggle to cope. Jay wasn’t interested in Christmas at all. He wouldn’t engage with anyone and couldn’t play with toys or play games like other children.
Jay’s life was transformed when he met Family Practitioner, Jeanette, from RSBC, who gave him and his family one-to-one support sessions.

Jay’s countdown will now be full of things all kids love doing in the Christmas holidays, but which he never expected to be able to do. Through our one-to-one sessions, he’s realised nothing is off limits. He’ll read large print books, watch festive films, build Lego, play computer games and bake, which is his absolute favourite thing to do as it gives him independence.
